This week we are also starting to grow our own potatoes as part of a national ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ initiative.
We will be putting seed potatoes into empty egg boxes and sitting them on a window ledge for a few weeks. This is called ‘chitting’ and allows the sprouts to harden.
There will also be a Potato Cam at http://potatoesforschools.org.uk/ where you can see how the ‘experts’ are getting on.
If anyone else is taking part in ‘Grow Your Own Potatoes’ we’d love to hear how you are getting on.
Does anyone grow their own vegetables at home?

Hi p2, So you are going to be growing your very own totties, that’s very exciting! I have a very good book at home, all about growing your own veg. I am very very interested in this new topic and I would be more than happy to lend you my book so that you can find out about other veggies you can grow at home. I am planning to have my own tottie patch this year so maybe Cameron will be able to put me right if I make any mistakes. GOOD LUCK on “chitting” your totties

Hi P2,
Growing totties in school. This sounds very exciting. Many years ago when I was at school we never got to do exciting projects like you are doing. I think that I would like to go back to school.
Carly will let me know how you all get on.
I hope you all enjoy your day and remember to all be good for Mrs Bromley.

I saw your potato experiments in class when I was working with you on Friday and Monday.
The results are very exciting – so far!

Hi P2!
Just a comment to say how much I like being your teacher, and that I think your mums and dads are fab for being so enthusiastic about our blog.
Bye for now,
Mrs Bromley

Hi P2
It’s great fun growing your own veggies.
I had a wee garden at the back of my house when I was young and enjoyed cooking and eating the things I grew.
I hope your Totties are super.
Keep looking after them

Good work primary 2 – are you going to give the potatoes to the dinner ladies to make into lunch once they are fully grown!?
I haven’t grown my own vegetables, but in my other job in B+Q I sell the things that help other people to do this, like compost, plant feed, seeds and seed trays.
When I was little my dad used to tell me if you don’t clean your ears out properly potatoes will grow there, but I think he was just pulling my leg! It did help me have very clean ears though!
